Like most moms, I spent years drowning in school papers, searching desperately for permission slips, and digging through the recycling bin for MIA lists of spelling words. While taking The Happy Family Movement’s Intentional Parenting class a few years back, I learned about their Weekly Board system and was inspired to finally get our school paper act together.
Our school paper organization system involves three things: the family calendar, one cork board for each child, and a box of pushpins. The only thing I didn’t already have was the cork boards which I picked up from Target (or here on Amazon).
When the boys get home it is their job to empty their folders and binders and HAND me the papers. Then I immediately take action:
1. Anything we will not need again immediately goes into the recycling bin.
2. Anything that needs to be signed is completed on the spot and returned to the appropriate child’s folder or binder.
3. Anything else like homework, lists of spelling words, passwords for websites they use for homework, or forms I don’t have time to fill out at the moment, is pinned to the appropriate child’s board.
I only have two kiddos so it isn’t hard to keep them straight but I did put a sticker with each boy’s first initial in the upper right corner to personalize them a bit. And that’s pretty much it! We even used this system this summer to keep track of school supply lists and summer reading lists and materials. It has become a lifesaver for this totally disorganized mama!
